Getting Started With ACKUGetting Started    The Basics

  • Choose any convenient location.
  • Start anytime in the year. Several clubs remain open during the summer months.
  • Drop by and try a free class. You don't need to call ahead. You can register directly at any club, you do not need to go through the main office.
  • Wear shorts or sweat pants and a t-shirt.
  • Students ages six and up are welcome to try a free class and see if they like karate.
  • Parents are encouraged to train with their children but children are welcome to train on their own.  
  • If you have trained before, at another martial arts club, you must wear a white belt.
  • Members are not required to wear a uniform until they participate in a colour belt grading. We prefer that you wear a uniform and belt which is purchased from ACKU. All sales support your club.
  • You are required to purchase a crest to wear on your gi, either the Canadian flag, or the wolf.
  • The flag crest represents our Canadian association.
  • The wolf crest represents our commitment to Canadian society.
